Springerbaai Cottages

Springerbaai is an Eco Estate on the South Coast of South Africa just off the famous N2 Garden route. It is a residential estate inside a protected coastal nature and wild life region. The Ocean View Cottage is located in Springerbaai. The estate is near Vleesbaai/Boggomsbaai which is approximately 27km from Mosselbay centre. The houses are spaciously located from the coastal plato down to about 300m from the unspoilt, 2km long, virtually private beach. The houses on the Estate are built in the famous Cape Dutch (or in Afrikaans; Kaaps-Hollandse) style and architecture to give you that ageless impression. In addition, the estate is in easy driving distance of the towns of Mosselbay, Greatbrak River and George International Airport. Close by are also big 5 game farms, Cape wines, world class golf courses (such as Pinnacle Point and Fancourt) and beautiful mountain and beach hiking trials.

The ocean views to east and south provide spectacular coastline views from Mosselbay to the Fransmanshoek point on the otherside of Vleesbaai – a coastline of about 50km. Whale and dolphin watching is popular past time. The northern views from the estate is marked by the dominating Outeniqua and Langeberg mountains. The Estate is secured through electrified fence all round and have secure gates (coded) via boardwalks to the beach. The ECO estate does not use harmful fossil fuel energy but rather solar PV and gas power.

The region is only a stone’s throw away from the well known Little Karoo with Oudtshoorn and its world famous Cango Caves and Ostrich Farms. The area has fantastic passes and poorts that criss-cross the famous Swartberg, Langeberg and Outeniqua Mountains. Apart from its ostrich farms, the Little Karoo is also known for its deciduous fruit and dairy industries with various champion wineries.

The Ocean View Cottage is a picturesque Cape Dutch style holiday beach house. The Cottage features beautiful views of the ocean, beach, rocky coastline and mountains. The Cape fynbos surrounds the cottage with the ocean and mountain views completing the horison. A small kloof drops from the patios towards the sea. The estate contains abundant bird life, more than 7 buck and antelope species as well as fynbos and beach fauna & flora. The cottage has access to boardwalks leading to the 1 km uninterrupted, virtually private sandy beach.

Behind the breakers, whales and dolphins can be seen from the sundeck and patios. The coastline covers Vleesbaai, Fransmanshoek Point in the south east and Danabaai/Pinnacle Point in the north east. Both the Langeberg and Outeniqua mountains can be seen from the cottage.

Rooms & Content

The cottage consists of 3 double bedrooms, a study/TV room (with 2 extra single beds), 3 bathrooms, closed patio, lounge, kitchen, scullery and garage. There are two outside deck/patios. Two standard mountain bikes and 2 beach chairs are kept in the garage.

The total size of the closed area is 241 square meters including the loft rooms.
The cottage has been renovated and has wooden flooring in the lounge and dining room. The house is furnished with a blend of antique South African and quality wooden furniture fitting to the Cape Vernacular styles.

The cottage can sleep 6 as standard but 8 if the two single beds in the TV room are utilised.

  • Main Bedroom – Double room with en-suite bath and shower/toilet plus private dressing area (downstairs).
  • Guest Bedroom – Double room with en-suite shower/toilet (also used as visitors toilet downstairs).
  • Loft bedroom – Open style double bed room upstairs with adjacent common shower and toilet (upstairs).
  • The remainder of the loft is a big open study/TV room with fantastic views to the northern Outeniqua mountains and Indian ocean in the east. This room can sleep another 2, which is ideal for children. A bookshelve with variety of interesting books as well as games and puzzles are kept in this room.
  • outside decks with mountain and ocean views (from Fransmanshoek point to Danabaai point).
  • The entrance and open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen opens onto the cement deck with ocean views. The room features a big fireplace for indoor barbecue and pleasant traditional heating. Big wooden dining room table, ideal for enjoyable socialising with friends and family.
  • 1 Patio with furniture on the Aalwynshoek fynbos kloof (ravine) with views up to the white waves.
  • 1 Closed Patio with north-easterly sun and direct view on the ocean.
  • The study contains a TV, DSTV (premium) decoder and portable radio/DVD player.

The kitchen and scullery contains:

  • gas stove
  • solar powered electric fridge
  • Microwave and kettle
  • Toaster
  • fully equipped with cutlery, crockery and cooking ware for 10 people

The cottage is supported by 24V solar power and battery system as well as 2 x 48kg gas bottles feeding the stove and geysers. A back-up generator is available in the winter months.

House Rules

  • We offer a self catering cottage.
  • We provide a cleaning service at end of rental period for linen, towels, dishes and general house clean.
  • Since it is an Eco Estate, the cottage uses Solar and Gas for energy.
  • In the cottage is a folder of various information documents including emergency numbers, estate rules, energy consumption and access information. Please abide by these requirements.
  • Ocean View Cottage has a non-smoking policy inside the house.
  • We require min of 4 nights stay, otherwise we require an additional but minor premium per night.
  • An inventory of property items will be provided and checked at arrival and departures. Breakage, damage or loss need to be reported and refunded by the guest.
  • A Deposit is payable on reservation and full rental will be payable before guest occupies the property.
  • An indemnity and waiver form is to be signed for the estate and the landlord.

Cancellation

Deposits will be forfeited if more than 1 week before reserved date or if notified 1 month before a 50% of deposit will be charged and if earlier a 0% of deposit cancellation fee will be charged.
